Frequently asked questions
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything happens in your own browser, on your own device. No file is sent to any server, not even SetTag's. Close this tab and everything is gone.
Which file types are supported?
JPEG, PNG, WebP, TIFF, HEIC/HEIF and AVIF, plus most camera RAW formats: TIFF-based ones such as CR2, NEF, ARW, DNG, ORF and RW2, and Canon's newer CR3 format via a purpose-built reader (CR3 uses a completely different file structure from the rest). Not every RAW format from every brand is one hundred percent guaranteed, but the most common metadata comes out fine in practice.
What is the difference between EXIF, IPTC and XMP?
EXIF comes from your camera: lens, shutter speed, ISO, date. IPTC and XMP exist for text a person adds: copyright, keywords, a caption. This checker shows all three in one overview.
Why is there no GPS location, even though my phone stores one?
Some apps and platforms (WhatsApp, Instagram, many cloud services) strip GPS data automatically the moment you share or export a photo. In that case it simply isn't in the file anymore.
Can I also remove metadata with this tool?
