How the CSV files work

SetTag has two kinds of CSV: one for your shotlist (sets) and one for the product catalogue. This page explains the columns, and especially the difference between client and brand, which often causes confusion.

Client vs. brand: the key distinction

  • Client is whoever's paying for the shoot, you fill that in once when creating the shoot itself, in the app. Client never appears as a CSV row.
  • Brand is the actual catalogue axis, and appears per row in the CSV. One client can easily carry several brands (an agency might shoot both Nike and another brand for the same customer), so brand belongs to the set or product, not to the shoot.
  • Type "Client" as a column name anyway, and it gets ignored. Use "Brand", "Merk", "Name", "Naam" or "Product" instead, all of those are recognised as the same column (column names are matched by keyword, not exact text, so renaming is always fine).

1. Sets CSV (shotlist)

  • Columns: Set;Brand;Items;Model;Location (Email can be added, optional).
  • Set: set number, can be left empty, gets auto-numbered then.
  • Items: "item/colour, item/colour", comma between items, slash between name and colour.
  • Email is purely for your own admin (e.g. a per-person delivery afterwards), it's not written into the photo metadata.
  • Export your sets and an extra "Tagged" column gets added (how many photos are already tagged with that set), purely informational, that column is ignored on re-import.

One format, three variants

The Brand column doesn't have to be called "Brand". Because "Name" and "Product" land on that same column, the same import format works for three very different kinds of shoots:

Fashion

Brand column = the actual brand, with Items and Model.

2. Product catalogue CSV

  • Columns: Name;Colours;Brand. A completely different file from the sets CSV above, this fills your reusable product list, not a shoot.
  • Colours: comma-separated.
  • Brand: optional. Leave it empty and the product lands under "General" (outside any specific brand). Older exports without a Brand column get assigned, on import, to whichever brand is currently selected in the catalogue.
